A Private Violin Teacher in Santa Barbara
Nina Bodnar is an acclaimed violinist whose early achievements include first prizes in the National Dealy Competition in Dallas, Texas,
and the Jacques Thibaud International Violin Competition in Paris, France. The latter honor launched her international career, and she
subsequently spent many years performing as a soloist in recital and with orchestras throughout Europe, Mexico, Hong Kong and the
United States.
An avid chamber musician, Ms. Bodnar was a regular member of the Santa Fe and "Strings in the Mountains" ( Steamboat Springs, Colorado)
Chamber Music Festivals for years, as well as being a frequent guest artist at various chamber music festivals throughout the country.
A native of Santa Barbara, Ms. Bodnar served as concertmaster of the Santa Barbara Symphony and the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra for
several years before being appointed concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Leonard Slatkin in 1989, a
position she held until 1995. During these years Ms. Bodnar continued to be active as a soloist and chamber musician and was artist in residence
at Washington University.
Nina spent five years as the first violinist of the Rossetti String Quartet. National appearances were numerous and included the Library of Congress,
the 92nd Street Y, and the historic Wisconsin Union Theatre. Internationally, the quartet performed in England, France, Germany, Mexico, the
Netherlands and Italy.
Her beloved teachers were Sybil Maxwell, Zino Francescatti, and Henri Temianka.
Currently Ms. Bodnar resides in Santa Barbara and devotes herself to teaching violin. In addition to being a private violin teacher in Santa Barbara, Nina is the Artistic Director of the Santa Barbara Music and Arts Conservatory ( sbmac.org) where she directs the two string orchestras ( Junior Virtuosi, Virtuoso Strings) and the chamber music program that she created for the budding young talents in the region.
